Senator Bracy has sponsored over 25 Bills to help families in Florida

Kaia Rolle Act

Determined to protect children from rough police treatment, Senator Bracy filed and passed language to prohibit the arrest of children under the age of 8 years old. The bill requires applicants for law enforcement jobs to disclose whether they have any pending investigation against them or if they resigned from a previous law enforcement position while under investigation. It also creates minimum training standards for the use of chokeholds, the use of force, de-escalation tactics, and the duty to intervene when another officer uses excessive force. Police agencies would also be required to have an outside agency investigate possible instances of excessive force and issue an independent report.

Roth Family Jewish Community Center Funding

Senator Bracy secured $150,000 in funding for the Central Florida’s Roth Family Jewish Community Center. The state grant will allow the center to replace internal communications systems so that teachers and staff in the center’s school, recreation center and other facilities will be able to communicate directly with law enforcement and other first responders in the event of a crisis. Randolph Bracy Scholarship Program (Reparations)

The Randolph Bracy Ocoee Scholarship Program was created by the 2021 Florida Legislature to provide student financial assistance for a maximum of 50 eligible students who are either (1) a direct descendant of victims of the Ocoee Election Day Riots of November 1920, or (2) current African-American residents of Ocoee, Florida.

Saved Bethune-Cookman University from Closing

Senator Randolph Bracy helped to secure Bethune-Cookman University and other Florida HBCUs annual funding. He lobbied for funding for B-CU which was $17.3 million in recurring support with additional support of $15.75 million to be divided by Edward Waters College and Florida Memorial University. Sen. Bracy initiated discussions with Senate President Bill Galvano about this historic funding proposal during the early months of the summer legislative meetings in 2019, after B-CU Board Trustee Chairman Belvin Perry expressed concern to Senator Bracy about B-CU’s future.

Ocoee Massacre Education

In 2020, former state Senator Randolph Bracy played a part in making sure students were taught about the event. Now, he said he’s disheartened by recent educational changes, because he thinks they will lead to important moments in American history, like the Ocoee massacre, being watered down in the classroom.

Apopka Fire Station

Senator Bracy secured a portion of the state budget, $1 million, to fund the new Fire Station 6 in southwest Apopka. The fire station serves the 32703 zip code. Apopka Fire Station 6 was running its operation out of a trailer — an untenable situation as Apopka continues to grow. The City used the dollars needed to design and build a 7,500 sq. ft. building to accommodate 15 full-time personnel and four emergency response vehicles. This protects lives and property.

Senator Randolph Bracy Closes Heirs’ Property Loophole in Florida

Governor Ron DeSantis today signed SB 580, the Uniform Partition of Heirs Property Act, into law. Senator Randolph Bracy (D-Ocoee) was the chief sponsor of the legislation which passed unanimously in both chambers of the Florida Legislature. “The signing of this bill into law marks a huge victory for housing justice because it secures home ownership for families, especially those of low- and middle-class income” said Senator Bracy.

Town of Oakland to receive $1 million in legislative assistance for vital wastewater project

Senator Bracy secured $1 million for Oakland wasterwater system and $750k for Oakland S. Lake Apopka initiative to build critical infrastructureThe state funding will help pay for the design and construction of the Jefferson Street Wastewater Extension portion of the project.
